Western Mass Engagement Session Tips
Your engagement session should be fun and care free! Here are some awesome tips to get you all prepared for some incredible photos.
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX
…bring some props, think of an activity or a theme. Having some inspiration to build a session around makes it so much fun! Think of your favorite movie, book, pastime or crazy idea. Trust me, no idea is too crazy
CONSIDER HAVING YOUR HAIR & MAKE-UP DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL
…it’s a great way to get to know a hair/make-up artist for your wedding and can make you feel more confident and beautiful, which shows through in photos!
Here are a couple of Make up artists I can highly recommend from working with them in the past.
Crystal Vazquez & Co
…Yes, you have permission. Go shopping. Have fun! You’re going to have these photos forever and they document such an important part of your story together. You’re allowed to be a hot couple! Most couples bring a couple different outfits.
… The engagement session is all about having fun and enjoying your engagement. It’s a great time to cuddle each other and be yourselves. If you are normally a little quirky and love to laugh then go with it.
“We hired Greg as our engagement session and wedding day photographer. He was a pleasure to work with, made us feel comfortable during both sessions and took wonderful natural and posed photos.”
Below are a few clothing tips for the session:
Whatever you pick for your shoot, make sure you are comfortable in it. You want to feel great when you’re wearing it. If you feel uncomfortable, you’ll probably look uncomfortable. Stay true to who you are. Don’t wear 4 inch stiletto heels if you’re a girl who lives and dies by cute flats.
The rest of this is pretty straightforward, and remember – these are only guidelines. If your favorite outfit in the world goes against most of these suggestions, bring it anyway. When we shoot engagement sessions, our goal is to capture a couple’s dynamic – not to show off a couple’s fashion sense. It’s certainly great to think ahead, but don’t let this stress you out. Regardless of what yo u wear, we’re going to have lots of fun and work together to take photos you’ll love.
Things to avoid:
Logos/graphics/text on clothing. This is mostly geared towards the fellas, and there really aren’t many exceptions to this one. Make sure your clothes aren’t too baggy or too tight. If your clothes are too baggy, you’ll look bigger than you really are and kinda messy/sloppy. Usually it’s men who have a tendency to wear clothes that are too baggy. For tighter tops (or sleeveless tops/dresses), always bring a cardigan or cute jacket for layering. Try to avoid sleeveless clothing whenever possible. If your favorite top/dress is sleeveless, bring a cardigan. Keep in mind what your body shape is and dress for it. Guys — please, please, please don’t wear clothes that are too big for you. Your dress shirts should not be baggy!
Being too matchy-matchy. This might go without saying, but you both don’t need to show up in matching green polos and jeans. Also consider the general style you’re both going for. Guys – this means that if she’s wearing a chic cocktail dress and heels, you should reconsider your cargo shorts and flip flops.
White shirts/pants/dresses and black shirts/pants/dresses.
Jeans- For whatever reason, jeans tend to photograph really really well. I personally prefer the look of jeans in photos over khaki chinos, but that is really more of a personal preference. They both look great. Cute dresses. Another great thing for you girls to keep in mind is dresses! If you’re comfortable in dresses and have a few that you love (or want an excuse to go out and shop!), brightly colored dresses are a great option.
Bright, solid colors. Rich colors can really help separate you from the background, especially if we’ve discussed shooting in any especially “green”, outdoorsey locations.
Accessories. Feel free to bring a variety of jewelry, scarves, sunglasses, belts or hats. We don’t have to use them, especially if you’re the kind of person who usually keeps it pretty simple with accessories, but it doesn’t hurt to bring them along just in case!
Engagement sessions are a great way to work with your photographer before your wedding day and get some amazing and fun photos to use for your save the date cards.

Bonjour everyone, I have some more Western Mass Wedding Photography for you!
I am thrilled to announce Ashleigh and Ben’s marriage. They have been together for 5 years and met on their high school bus.
As for the proposal,
“He came over with flowers and a photo album with pictures of us. After the last photo he wrote a little note saying the red roses were for all the years I have loved you and the white for the years I promise to love you in the future. Will you marry me”?
The ceremony was truly breathtaking, arrowhead acres certainly has an amazing spot in the back to get married. As you will see from the photos the grounds were picturesque.
I had a chance to ask Ashleigh about her experience of working with me on her wedding day and this is what she had to say.
“Excellent! Our familes have nicknamed Greg our wedding day mouse. I would close my eyes and he’d be gone and open them and he’d be back. He was polite, got all the photos we wanted and our guests loved our same day slideshow”.
My gown was from Maggie Sottero. I looked so many times and tried on over 100 dresses from over 6 stores. I As soon as I put my gown on I knew,, it was perfect. Romantic, lacy, and had cap sleves.
Relax! All the little stresses (and the big ones) will eventually be worth it. Try to soak up everything you can because the day really does go by so fast. And eat! Don’t forget that detail when you’re getting ready
Wish you could have been there, too, blog readers! At least you can live through the pictures!

Anna and Jonathan’s Salem Cross Inn Wedding Photography
I said it before and I’ll say it again: Congratulations Anna and Jonathan!
When I first saw Anna wearing her picture-perfect white wedding gown that she found at Bridal Heirlooms,
I went to Bridal Heirlooms in South Hadley. It was probably the best experience I could have had for wedding dress shopping. I tried on at least a dozen different dresses. I’m normally very indecisive but as soon as I saw myself in the mirror I knew. My mom started to cry a little when she saw me in that dress.
The wedding went out a hitch and would not have been so flawless with out these amazing wedding professionals
Ladyslipper Designers – Natalie handled all of our flowers and setup. She even had people there to pin corsages and boutonnieres on the wedding party. She was excellent and came through at the last minute when we realized we forgot to include a few specific flowers for our ceremony. Viren Entertainment – Shawn got us organized from the start on the structure of our reception, and kept the show running and everyone dancing. Salem Cross Inn – Nancy and her team took care of putting our all our decorations, and of course the food and location were great.
Salem Cross Inn wedding photography is always amazing with stunning landscape surrounding the inn. I am especially excited as I was able to deliver their hand made Italian wedding book to them just a few days ago. There is no other better experience than viewing your wedding photos in your wedding book.
Without further adieu, Mr. and Mrs. Scott

I’ve got another glorious Log Cabin Wedding Photography for you guys today!
Their wedding day was truly amazing! We were all a little worried about the weather but the little mist and overcast didn’t slow down anyone and added a little saturation to the outside photos.
Michelle’s dress was so stunning. I know I say that about a lot of wedding dresses but come on take a look.
” It was sweetheart neck, strapless, and flowy. It was opposite of what I wanted, but when I put it on I was emotional! I knew it was the one, everyone else had the same reaction. We added a belt to the dress to make it my own. We found it at In White in feeding hills.”
We had a lot of fun taking wedding pictures, as well. They decided to not see each other until Michelle was walking down the aisle. In fact Michelle says one of her favorite parts of the wedding day was seeing Dominic for the first time as she was walking down the aisle.
The Wedding was at Saint Mary’s Parish in Westfield, the reception was at the Log Cabin. They danced their first song, Stand by me, which was played by Thom from Marx Entertainment.
Okay, let’s get to the pictures! Michelle and Dominic were such a delight to work with and I wish them many wonderful years to come.
